The First Thing To Do In A New Place Is Be A Tourist

Although I was going to live in Buenos Aires the next 4 months, I was still just as excited to tour the city. After all, I am a tourist.

Although I was going to live in Buenos Aires the next 4 months, I was still just as excited to tour the city. After all, I am a tourist.

Every tourist outing in this city usually begins with me taking the subway.

In one of the main parks, Plaza San Martin, there was an art exhibit for these “Buddy Bears”

.

There are about 150 of these bears, more or less.

“Each Buddy Bear has been designed by an artist on behalf of his or her native country. The international artists’ different styles are joined together in one work of art, spreading zest for life. The diverse design of the Buddy Bears – always typical for the respective countries – enables the visitors to experience a journey around the globe. ”

After the park I found myself downtown witnessing the live taping of a beer commercial.

Next up I walked down Buenos Aire’s pedestrian only Florida street, highlighted by man playing his giant harp.

The store Havana in the photo is like Argentina’s starbucks. Except they also have Starbucks here.

On sundays in San Telmo is a huge antique market.

Unfortunately there are few good deals here as it is targeted towards tourists. Instead of scoring a great deal on some silverware from the 1800’s, I bought popcorn instead.

By the way, Quilmes is the #1 selling beer. If you were wondering what Quilmes is, now you know.

This is not real. It is art.

They were not very good.

These guys had opened up the fence protecting a street that was under construction and made a BBQ.

Art for tourists like me. No, I did not buy any.

More antiques.

I ate at this “quaint” little restaurant ran by a bunch of old men. Steak and wine!

Just like the beginning of any tourist outing, it also ends with a subway ride home.
