Top Five January Breaks

January is an ideal time to get away to catch some sun and get an enviable tan to show off to your somewhat pallid friends upon your return. With the cold winds and rain lashing the UK, you could be swapping the umbrella for the parasol in next to no time.

One favourite destination with sun deprived Brits is of course the Canary Islands, whether it be Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, or Fuerteventura. There are other smaller islands besides these favourites such La Gomera if you want to avoid the crowds. Whichever one you choose, you’re guaranteed to be able to find that much desired winter sun at great prices. There’s always a bargain available making the Canaries a great choice to escape the UK for a week or two.

If you’re prepared to fly a little further afield, then the Caribbean is a great place to head for during January with temperatures regularly hitting 30 degrees. The beautiful clear waters of the Caribbean are a delight to swim in that will instantly evaporate all memory of the wind lashed British Isles. Whether you head to Barbados, Jamaica or the Cayman islands, you won’t regret flying to the Caribbean and with direct charter flights you can get here hassle free. Incidentally there are a staggering 7,000 islands scattered throughout the dreamy waters of the Caribbean, so the choice is vast.

It won’t be sweltering in January, but Cyprus is pleasant destination to head for as it enjoys a comfortable mid 60s in January. Although January is strictly out of season for most of the island there are still plenty of places still open particularly in Paphos, Limmasol and Larnarca. Being the quiet part of the year, it is great time to catch a cheap flight and experience the more traditional side to the so called island of Aphrodite away from the crowds.

The Gambia

The Gambia enjoys average temperatures of around 30 degrees during January making it a perfect retreat from the winter gloom. Beautiful sandy beaches lined with palm trees are an ideal place to relax amidst balmy breezes. During January Gambia is still very much alive with plenty of bars and restaurants open, and you’ll find your money goes a long way here on the smiling coast.

Why not visit the beautiful country of Thailand for a bit of January sun? Traditional fishing villages are never far away in this land of smiles. And there’s plenty to see in the islands off the coast jutting out of the warm and inviting waters. The Andaman Coast is particularly inviting during January with its dry and sunny climate.

Wherever you decide to jet off to for a bit of winter sun, make sure that you have single trip insurance

for peace of mind throughout your stay. So start looking straight away for that perfect holiday away from the storm battered UK. You could find yourself flying off to those warmer climes sooner than you think.
